Summer Time Fun

During the summer we are always on the move. We are going to the pool, the zoo, the playground, the snow cone stand and so many more fun summer time activities!

I love to wear Hudson around, but sometimes in the Texas heat, it's just not possible. We both get so hot in this 100 degree weather. The carseat is another great option. Unfortunately carrying around a carseat can be tough. Especially when our little guy is in the 80% percentile. He's a heavy guy. And carrying around a carseat is probably one of the most awkward things for me. I always have Kyle carry him because it hurts my wrist.
But now that we have a LugBug it makes it easy to carry him around. It takes pressure off the wrist and arm and I can tell a difference when I use it.

I am giving one away on Instagram this weekend. So make sure you head over and get entered. Every family needs one to enjoy their summer time fun!

What are your fun summer time plans? I'd love to hear!

Ways to Be A Better Mom Today

Some days are hard. There is spilled milk on the counter, crushed up cheerios all over the floor, and a toddler running circles around you without a diaper on. All before 8am. You've decided that today you aren't a good mom. You have failed at being a mom. We've all been there. It comes with the territory.

Now you have a choice. You can let it all get to you and tell yourself the day cannot be redeemed. Or you can pick yourself up off the floor, decide to turn the day around, and be a better mom. How do you be a better mom you might ask? It's easy! Stand up, take a deep breath, and grab today by the horns!

Sometimes we feel that to be a good mom we have to be the best mom all the time. The mom who always has it together. The mom who plans amazingly creative crafts or we have to take them on multiple play dates a week, but honestly, you can be a better mom by just doing 1 of these quick fixes. The day is not lost. It can be turned around!

1. Give high fives
2. Race from one end of the house to the other
3. Give eskimo kisses
4. Cuddle up and read a book
5. Do jumping jacks
6. Make silly faces
7. Blow bubbles in a glass of chocolate milk
8. Hold their hand while you watch a TV show
9. Jump on the bed
10. Tell them how proud of them you are
11. Sing their favorite song
12. Share their favorite snack
13. Play in the dirt
14. Run through the sprinklers
15. Head to the neighborhood pool
16. Go for a walk around the block
17. Build a tower out of legos
18. Take silly pictures
19. Play dress up with mommy and daddy's clothes
20. Choose joy.

Choose to make today a better day! And if all else fails, say a prayer that tomorrow is a better day.

If your day didn't start off on the right foot, don't let the rest of the day follow suit! Take a few minutes to enjoy your babies. It only takes a few seconds and it can change your day and attitude right around.

Take a chance! What do you have to lose? I promise you won't be disappointed.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I don’t know about you, but I have a sweet tooth. Like major sweet tooth and when I find something I like, I like it a lot and want to have it all the time!

As a kid my mom used to always make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and I’ve loved them since then. I’ve always been a fan of oatmeal, which is why I think I love them so much.

This recipe is seriously the best too. The cookies come out warm and gooey and go perfect with a glass of milk. Just ask my daughter. She’s the reason I can’t eat them in front of her. She will end up finishing them for me. Mommy doesn’t like to share her cookies.

The other great thing about oatmeal is that it helps with your milk supply when you’re nursing. Score! So that’s how I justify eating a baker’s dozen of these a day. It’s all about the baby. {wink, wink}

Enjoy this easy recipe and make some delicious cookies. I promise you will fall in love!
INGREDIENTS

2 sticks of softened butter
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
¼ cup white sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 ½ cup flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp of cinnamon (I like to do 2)
3 cups oatmeal
2 cups chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Mix the butter and sugars together in a mixer until white and fluffy (2-3 minutes)
  4. Add eggs and beat on high for 1 minute. Then add vanilla.
  5. Slowly add in flour mixture and mix on low.
  6. Add in oatmeal and chocolate chips. Keep the mixer on low. Mix until combined.
  7. Chill the dough for 30 minutes-1 hour. This step is not necessary if you are crunched for time.
  8. Put parchment paper (I use a silpat) on your cookie sheet and use a cookie scoop to place the dough about 2 inches apart. I fit 12 cookies per sheet.
  9. As for baking time you have to know your oven. My oven cooks fast (gas oven) so I cook the cookies for 8 minutes. You want the cookies to be light brown around the edges and gooey in the middle. They will continue to cook when you take them out of the oven. Play around with your cooking times for each batch so that the next time you make them, you’ll know for certain the perfect cooking time.
NOTES

If you don’t like chocolate chips, you can add raisins or nuts. Do whatever tickles your fancy!
If you like dryer cookies, cook longer. If you like gooeyer cookies, cook less.

Summer Picnics

I don't know about you, but I LOVE summer time! Especially when they involved picnics.

Sitting outside on a blanket with some yummy munchies enjoying the beautiful weather! It's pretty much perfection in my book.

When I heard Freshly Picked was having a Picnic Pack moccasin release I knew I had to check it out!

And they did not disappoint. Adorable moccasins perfect for a day at the park!

First up, watermelon. To die for! I can already see the outfits I could put together.

Next up is Ants.
My favorite part of these is the adorable picnic blanket pattern on the bottom.

And my favorite saved for last is Aruba.
This color doesn't get any more perfect!

AND the best part is these patterns will be available on Wednesday at 10am MST at Freshly Picked. You do not want to miss this release! They will not be available AGAIN!

So what about you? What's your favorite color? Let me know in the comments!
